Warson Woods’ Sewer Lateral Program
A residential sewer lateral is the sewer pipe that runs from your home’s foundation to the sewer main. The sewer pipes inside your home can become clogged or crack due to tree roots or other issues. In much the same way, the main sewer drain that leads all the way to MSD can break or clog, and that can be expensive to fix (upwards of $15k).
If you experience slow drains, foul odors, or low water pressure, you could have a clogged drain pipe. Knowing where the blockage is located is important, because if the clog is somewhere along the sewer lateral at least five feet outside your home’s foundation, the City of Warson Wood’s Sewer Lateral Repair Program may cover up to 90% of the repair costs up to $4,000.
To qualify for reimbursement, homeowners must pay the annual lateral assessment fee on their real property tax bill each year and pay to have the lateral cleaned. If a drain cleaning does not remove the blockage, homeowners should obtain evidence by plumber’s written report and invoice to schedule a camera drain inspection. If the video indicates damage to the pipe, a sketch must be prepared for the city showing the location of the defect.
