Don’t Settle for Cold Showers! Let Us Restore Your Hot Water Supply
If your water heater has stopped supplying you with hot water, the heating element may be broken. Electric and Gas water heaters heat water differently. Here’s how:
Electric Water Heaters
Electric water heaters are typically equipped with two heating elements: one near the top of the tank, and one near the bottom, each controlled by separate thermostats. When the water at the top of the tank is hot, that heating element shuts off, and the one near the bottom takes over. The two never run at the same time.
Gas Water Heaters
Gas-fired water heaters are equipped with a burner that receives gas through a control valve and a thermostat switch.
A control valve and a thermostat switch feed gas to the burner. The heaters heat the tank, which in turn heats the water. This means that gas water heaters cause more wear and tear on the tank, giving them a shorter life than their electric counterparts.
If the heating elements are working properly, the problem could be one of these:
- Power (electric)
- Sediment in the tank
- Bad thermostat
- Pilot light is out (gas)
- Dirty gas burner (gas)
- Scale collected
- Leaking pressure relief valve
- Leaking water supply pipes
