Providing Water Pressure Restoration in St. Louis for Over 35 Years
Decent water pressure in the bathroom is a pleasure we take for granted—right up until it’s gone.
Ideally, home water pressure should be between 45 and 55 psi. To check yours, connect a pressure gauge (available at home improvement stores) to an outside faucet and take a reading.
If it’s below 45 PSI and you’d like to increase your water pressure, there may be a simple solution:
- The shut-off valves near your water meter may be partially closed. Turn the handle so fully open the valve.
- Your home’s water pressure regulator may need to be adjusted. Be sure to keep it below 75 PSI to avoid damaging your plumbing systems and fixtures.
- If your outside faucets seem to be working fine, you may need to clean or replace the fixtures that have low water pressure.
It’s also possible that your city’s water department is intentionally limiting home water pressure. In that case, consider installing a water pressure booster.
Water pressure boosters pull water into a tank on one side of a rubber bladder, compressing the air in the bladder and pressurizing the water. Keep in mind that manually operated booster require homeowners to switch the pump on for additional pressure, while “on-demand” booster will continuously monitor and adjust the pressure to a preset level.
Low water pressure can also be caused by leaks, obstructions, or buildup in your plumbing system. If you suspect this is the case, call in a professional to assess the problem and recommend solutions.
