St. Louis Toilet Plumbing Experts Since 1985
Whether you’re updating an existing bathroom or adding a new one, plumbing the toilet will require careful planning, precise measurements, and expert installation.
If you’re starting from scratch, or “roughing in” a bathroom, you’ll likely need to obtain a plumbing or building permit, and it’ll be important to have the work inspected. Throughout the process you’ll have several decisions to make:
- How to arrange the bathtub/shower, sink, and toilet relative to one another.
- What size toilet drain line to use (3” or 4”), depending on the distance to your waste stack.
- Where to run the water supply line (through the wall or up through the floor), waste line, and vent pipe, which depends on pre-existing plumbing and how your home is constructed.
- How much PVC will be required, what valves and couplings are appropriate for your specific application, and how to properly slope each line to ensure the toilet functions properly.
- What size and shape of toilet to use. If you’re working in a small space that won’t accommodate a standard-size unit (12”), you’ll need to follow the manufacturers’ instructions exactly.
For most homeowners, plumbing a toilet simply isn’t a DIY project. Using the wrong materials can lead to corrosion and leaks, and improper installation can lead to clogs—both of which can result in gigantic messes and costly, time-consuming repairs. Avoid potential headaches by calling in a licensed professional.
