When things go wrong in your laundry room, they typically go really wrong. Burst washing machine hoses, leaky supply lines, overflowing drains, and noxious odors can be costly and harmful. Check out these trouble-shooting tips:
Burst Washing Machine Hoses
If you’re still using rubber washing machine hoses, consider replacing them with stainless steel, braided hoses. They maintain their flexibility, and can more easily withstand rapid water pressure changes created by washing machines.
Leaky Supply Lines
Leaky water supply lines can be caused by a number of things: corroded hoses, nuts that have loosened over time, cracked fittings, broken clamps, or worn washers and gaskets.
Overflowing washing machine drains can be caused by something as simple as lint build-up or soap scum. Or, they can be related to improperly plumbed standpipes.
Overflowing or Slowly Filling Washer
If your washer overflows or fills slowly, there’s a good chance the water inlet valve or pressure switch is malfunctioning.
If you’ve noticed sewage odors in your laundry area, it’s time to call in the experts. There’s a good chance your washing machine standpipe is improperly plumbed or it’s not vented correctly.
